What Makes Texas Culinary Institute So Special?

I’ve done a handful of Texas Culinary Institute’s classes with different chefs and every single one was so much fun! These cooking classes in El Paso are one of my favorite things to do! Their talented chefs collectively provide a beautiful variety of culinary experience and expertise. With chefs hailing all the way from Italy to chefs with deep local roots, you’ll be in great hands in any of their cooking classes. They each make everyone feel so comfortable as they guide you step by step to create something delicious. You can just see how much everyone there cares about their craft. And that’s a big part of what makes Texas Culinary Institute so special.
Plus, TCI offers many unique cooking class options and cuisines that you’ll always have a new choice to pick. This includes Italian, Korean, French, and Mexican cuisines; bread and baking classes; and even summer kids’ camps. Each month brings different cuisine possibilities and ways to expand your culinary horizons. That wide-ranging variety is exactly why this is one of the most fun things to do in El Paso for foodies!
Types of Cooking Classes El Paso’s TCI Offers
Hands-on Cooking Classes

Whether you want to learn how to make lasagna from scratch or try something out of your comfort zone like Japchae, these classes are perfect for food lovers of all levels. I learned to cook lasagna, Marry Me Chicken with pasta made from scratch, paella and a Korean stir-fry through TCI’s culinary classes. And now, the same Korean stir-fry is one of the recipes I often revisit at home!
Each of these El Paso culinary classes is about three-hours long. During that time, you’ll learn three yummy recipes step-by-step. And the chefs definitely go into detail! You’ll leave the class understanding why each ingredient or technique is important in the process. You can bring wine or beer to enjoy as you cook and learn. Plus, they send the recipes by email after the class so you can recreate the dish at home. And we haven’t even gotten to the best part! You get to enjoy the fruits of your labor (aka DIG IN!) right after the class. Make sure you bring a Tupperware — you’ll definitely have leftovers to take home!
DATE NIGHT & GROUP CLASSES

Texas Culinary Institute’s class style is perfect for so many types of groups! It could be a unique date night idea or fun thing to do in El Paso for couples. It’s definitely the most perfect for a girls’ night or friend group activity. Or it could be a great option for corporate events and team-building activities. You can also book a private event for a big birthday, family reunion or even just a friend outing. Need I go?! Just gather up your favorite people and get to cookin’!
I did Texas Culinary Institute’s Galentine’s class last year and we learned how to make Marry Me chicken pasta. It was equal parts delicious and fun. I also did a team-building outing with coworkers where we made lasagna from scratch and ate too many cannoli. This one felt like actual LABOR because we made the pasta noodles AND the sauce from scratch. But who can say that they learned to make Italian food from an actual Italian?! We can! And because the limit for each class is 14 people, you really get an intimate experience.
BAKING & SPECIALTY CLASSES

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at bread-making but don’t know where to start? On top of regular cooking workshops in El Paso, TCI also offers baking classes! As I mentioned earlier, class offerings change each month and each month includes a few different baking options. So you could learn to bake blueberry and maple danishes one month and pineapple buns the next. And that’s what makes Texas Culinary Institute one of the most unique food experiences in El Paso.
KIDS SUMMER COOKING CAMP

Looking for a way to escape the hellish summer heat of the Sun City? In addition to the wide variety of adult classes offered, TCI also hosts summer cooking camps for kids ages 7–17. The camp works on a weekly schedule Monday–Friday in June and July. The kids learn to cook a new dish each day — featuring different cuisines throughout the two months. What better way to let your kids’ taste buds explore new flavors and textures than learning to cook here. Get your little chef started early with TCI’s hands-on cooking classes in El Paso!
Who Should Try Cooking Classes in El Paso?

Texas Culinary Institute’s classes are for everyone! You can be an absolute beginner whose only cooking experience is Maruchans with lime and Salsa Valentina. (Listen, I respect it!) Or you may have a little bit more experience in the kitchen and just want to try something new. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to make sushi at an authentic El Paso culinary class. (ME! Also, it’s not as hard as I imagined it would be. So worth it!) Or imagine being able to easily make Chinese food at home that beats takeout every time.
No matter what cooking skill level you bring to the table, these are the best cooking classes in El Paso. Hands down! It’s even a great option for people visiting El Paso from out of town.
What You’ll Learn at Texas Culinary Institute

The chefs at TCI are extremely knowledgeable and they love to share their passion for food! You’ll learn exactly how to knead pasta dough, what effect specific seasonings have on a dish and much more. Each class involves three dishes — a starter, a main dish and a dessert. But generally, you’ll focus the most on the main dish and dessert.
For example, we learned to make pork dumplings, a beef and vegetable stir-fry, and white chocolate macadamia cookies for the Korean stir-fry class. The chef taught us the techniques to easily fill and fold the dumplings so they come out perfect each time. She made an initially intimidating dish absolutely approachable and fun. It really helps that the chefs walk around and inspect your dishes to ensure you’re on the right path. It’s truly the best cooking school in El Paso for anyone who wants to learn from real chefs.
